The Company was founded in 1984 as the UK subsidiary of the Dutch Company, Vital Scientific and became independent in 1990. Since that time the Company has concentrated on broadening its product base so that today, a wide range of instruments complements the original line of Vital Clinical Photometers used predominately in Hospital Pathology Laboratories.

Advanced Micro Osmometers

The Company is now the market leader in Clinical Osmometers with 500 Advanced Micro Osmometers sold in over 16 years, mostly to Hospital Biochemistry Laboratories. Other applications for osmometers are to be found in Quality Control Laboratories in Pharmaceutical Companies and the Food and Drinks Industry, because there is no faster method of measuring total solution strength. Recently Sports Physiologists have started to use this Instrument to check for de-hydration in athletes and there is now a range of related Instruments available for performance testing.

Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate Analyser

The Company is also active in the Haematology Laboratory with the Worlds first (and still only) fully automated ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) Analyser known as Starrsed. Since 1997 the Starrsed Compact has become the standard ESR analyser within the UK and this has recently been augmented with the AutoCompact, a totally “walk away” version.

More recently the Company has ventured into the Immunology field with Polytiter, a microscope attachment that speeds up the job of performing ANA Immunofluorescence Titers.

Vitech Scientific provides service support and supplies for all these Instruments.
