Micromeritics manufactures automated particle characterization analytical laboratory instruments for R&D, QA/QC, production, and process control applications. These analyzers measure the following physical properties of powders and solids: particle size, particle count, surface area, porosity (pore volume, pore size, pore size distribution), absolute density, envelope density, bulk density, and chemical adsorption (catalytic activity, and active surface area). Micromeritics Analytical Services (MAS) provides sample analyses on a contract basis. Contract services include particle size, surface area, porosity, density, chemisorption, high-pressure adsorption, and method development.
Since no single particle size measurement technique is ideal for all applications, Micromeritics offers a selection of particle sizing techniques. Micromeritics’ Saturn DigiSizer® 5200 high-resolution laser particle size analyzer automatically determines particle sizes ranging from 0.1 to 1000 micrometers in just minutes. Micromeritics’ SediGraph III 5120 particle size analyzer measures mass by X-ray absorption and particle size by sedimentation in the size range of 0.1 to 300 micrometers. Micromeritics Elzone® II 5390 particle size/particle count analyzer utilizes the powerful electrical sensing zone method to determine quickly and accurately the size, number, concentration, and mass of a wide variety of organic and inorganic materials.
Micromeritics offers a variety of gas adsorption analyzers to fulfill almost any surface area and porosity need. The ASAP 2020 Accelerated Surface Area and Porosimetry System contains a multitude of data reduction methods and can be upgraded to perform micropore and chemisorption analyses without requiring additional bench space. The ASAP 2420 Accelerated Surface Area and Porosimetry System is designed for high-performance/high sample throughput with six independently operated analysis ports and twelve independently operated sample preparation ports. The ASAP 2050 Xtended Pressure Sorption Analyzer is capable of collecting physisorption data in an elevated-pressure environment and is particularly well suited for fuel cell, hydrogen storage, and pressure swing adsorption research applications. The TriStar 3000 multiport surface area and porosity instrument allows simultaneous and independent analysis of up to three samples. Micromeritics’ Gemini V series instruments perform rapid single-point and multipoint BET and Langmuir surface area measurements, as well as total pore volume analysis.
The AutoPore IV series porosimeters use mercury intrusion to determine pore size distribution, total pore volume, pore surface area, percent porosity, bulk density, skeletal density, permeability, and compressibility.
Micromeritics new AccuPyc II 1340 Gas Displacement Pycnometry System are fully automatic analyzers that provide volume measurements and density calculations on a wide variety of powders, solids, and slurries having volumes from 0.01 to 350 cm3. For high throughput, an integrated control and analysis module can operate up to five additional external analysis modules. The GeoPyc™ 1360 uses the displacement of a patented medium to determine envelope volume of solid materials. Combined with sample mass, material density also is determined by these analyzers. The GeoPyc automatically calculates the total pore volume when the skeletal volume is known and is nondestructive for most samples.
