A Special Relationship with the World's Medicine Chest

Yorkshire Forward

Known as the 'medicine chest' of the US, New Jersey is the hub of activity for global bio-scientific and pharmaceutical enterprise.

New Jersey is home to nineteen major pharmaceutical companies sharing a market capital of $15 billion, over 75% of which have their global headquarters in the state.

And in November this year leading figures from the South Yorkshire and US bioscience industry met to explore the opportunities for future relationships.

Hosted by SYBEN (the South Yorkshire Business Enterprise Network), the two day event provided the South Yorkshire delegates with a unique opportunity to explore new partnerships and enhance the value of business and research with their US counterparts.

Amongst those in attendance were Sameer Kothari (Plasso), Mal Jarmolowicz (Cell Tran), Simon Ward (York Pharma and SYBEN), Peter Grant (bioFusion), Paul Gerskowitch (Axordia) and Julian White representing the White Rose University Consortium.

In addition to the range of presentations from both US and UK representatives, time was set aside for pre-scheduled one-to-one meetings, giving UK delegates the chance to build strong working relationships with the US industries and institutions.

Activities were held at the Technology Centre of New Jersey, a State-funded Bioincubator for early stage lifescience companies. The Incubator offered South Yorkshire companies free desk and laboratory space for short stay visits and have begun an open dialogue with the Sheffield Bioincubator to build upon a reciprocal arrangement and further strengthen the links between the two regions.
