New Solid Liquid Separation Solutions to be Unveiled at Achema 2006

Larox Corporation

Larox Corporation will introduce a number of new and redesigned solid-liquid separation solutions at Achema 2006.

One of the worlds leading providers of solid liquid separation solutions, Larox Corporation (Lappeenranta, Finland) will unveil a number of new and redesigned products at the Achema 2006 together with new tools to assist its clients find the best solution to their needs.

Larox will have an inside booth in Hall 5.0, Stand H30 - J36 featuring "Larox - Your Solution Provider" plus an outside area F1, Booth G17 - H22, where a broad representation of the Larox equipment range will be on display.

The most exciting new development for the CPI is the introduction of the completely redesigned, from the ground up, Hoesch range of chamber and membrane filter presses that now meet the new Eurocode 3 construction requirements. These new presses are available in both overhead beam and side bar design and the outside area at Achema will feature a new 1500 x 1500 overhead beam chamber press.

Hoesch Filter Presses

The new presses are designed for 10, 16 or 30 Bar operating pressure depending on the application and are initially available with 1200 x 1200, 1500 x 1500 or 2000 x 2000 mm plates. Plates are also available in several chamber depths. The new designs will continue to include all those features that have made the Hoesch plate design the leader in the market.

These features include center feed ports with distribution ring for even chamber filling and cake distribution and the use of replaceable rubber membranes, which are safer than welded membranes and more reliable. Optional features will include automatic plate shifting, assisted cake discharge and automatic cloth washing, light curtains, swivel plates (bomb-doors) and explosion proof operation, sanitary designs, food-grade designs and corrosion resistant designs.

Also being introduced at the Achema is a new standardized range of Pannevis RT horizontal vacuum belt filters from Larox, which will retain all the proven advantages of the Pannevis RT filter while offering a standardized design and construction to make these filters extremely competitive.

Pannevis Horizontal Vacuum Belt Filters

The advantages of the new standardized designs to the user of Pannevis RT filters include:

  • Standardization of components
  • Standardization on the best features from the various models
  • Shorter delivery times
  • More compact design for the larger models (new 3m width replaces 2.88m and a new 4m width is to be introduced)
  • Flexibility in adding options during the ordering process or after installation
  • Fast spare parts availability
  • Exchangeable parts over different width models
  • Simple modifications to upgrade or extend existing models
  • Standardization of options and ancillaries
  • Integrated automation over the complete range (also integrated with all other Larox products)
  • Simplified automation upgrades

Staying with the Pannevis range from Larox, the Pannevis RB-SV is a completely new design developed from the RB-CDV but designed to improve on the operation. Primarily targeted at heavy industries the RB-SV now locates the vacuum box directly under the rubber belt but maintains the side mounting for ease of access and maintenance. The side mounting of the vacuum box offers several important advantages over conventional rubber belt filter with vacuum boxes mounted in the centre under the rubber belt including:

  • Access to the vacuum box for cleaning or maintenance is simple.
  • Removable access panels on the outer side of the box provide complete access
  • The vacuum box does not require relocation for any reason.
  • Rubber belt has a single reinforced carcass across the full width with no holes.
  • Laminar flow in the grooves ends with direct discharge into the vacuum box without any change of direction. This results in a lower pressure drop across the belt.
  • Gas/liquid separation occurs in the vacuum box at the end of the groove eliminating any flexible hoses or manifold.
  • Filtrate separators can be eliminated as gas/ liquid separation occurs in the vacuum box.
  • Laminar flow in the grooves gives higher hydraulic capacity and more efficient drainage. Also less back mixing when carrying out counter-current cake washing as filtrate separation is more efficient.

Larox is also introducing a complete line of Polypropylene filter plates for its Larox C Series range of Automatic Pressure Filters. The Larox PP plates have been developed using the considerable experience gained within the Larox group from supplying Hoesch membrane plates for almost 50 years for both vertical and horizontal filter presses. It therefore brings together the Larox C Series, the market leading automatic filter press with the superior capabilities of the Hoesch PP filter plates.

Filter PlateThe PP plates offer a wider range of chemical compatibility than the current options, especially for corrosive applications where PP is well proven. They also offer the advantage of being lighter in weight than the metal plates, thus reducing the total weight of the installation.

The new plates also offer greater resilience to stresses occasionally encountered in pressure filtration. Combined with the existing material options, Larox will have the capability to handle almost all process conditions up to 90°C.

Larox Automation systems will also unveil a harmonized filter control for al the products in the Larox range. The new harmonized control system has been designed specifically for the Larox product family. It guarantees reliable and safe operation from the point of view of the functions of the machine as well as from the standpoint of the users.

Larox Automation System makes totally automatic production possible but, if necessary, its versatile manual functions give the operating personnel a sufficient freedom for the control of special situations.

Large diagnostic functions ease the settling of problem situations directing operators to the right decisions. Larox Automation System also now provides a new, efficient method to collect, store and refine real-time data. Discrete and continuous variables can be transformed from data into information and knowledge.

Both can be made available for any user in a comprehensible form by utilizing Larox Visualization together with Data Collection and Reporting systems.

Finally Larox will introduce exiting new tools for the customer to ensure the best solid-liquid separation solution possible is chosen for their production requirement.
