Larox C Series Automatic Pressure Filters are gaining wide acceptance in the soda ash industry as the state of the art solution for the handling of waste streams that otherwise are becoming major disposal problems.
Manufacturing soda ash by the either the Solvay or Hou process produces a large amount of waste sludge. For every ton of soda ash produced there is approximately 10m3 of post-distillation waste material produced containing 200 - 300 kg of solid material.
This can add up to a significant tonnage and can present a serious environmental and disposal problem. The Larox C Series automatic pressure filter has now proven itself in multiple installations for the isolation and recovery of the waste solids. By removing the solids and washing them free of the contaminants the solids can be more readily disposed of by either land-filling as a non-hazardous material or selling as a by-product.
This enables the soda ash producers to:
- Meet all environmental and legislative demands.

- Add value to the waste, potentially turn it into product.
- Maintain the plants position in an increasingly competitive environment.
- Have reliable operation and service.
The Larox C Series filter also provides:
- Constant process performance in terms of washing, moisture content and capacity.
- Fully automatic operation, including cake discharge.
- Stable and reliable plant operation.
With several major producers converting in the last few years to the Larox C Series for their soda ash waste streams, the filter is now accepted as the state of the art solution to the problem.
At the same time the Scheibler Polishing filter from Larox is used in the process to polish the overflow stream from the thickening process to ensure a clean liquid containing only single digit ppm solids carries forward.
The Scheibler filter can also be used for the thickener overflow for those soda ash producers starting from Trona natural soda ash.
The Larox PF filters, the Scheibler polishing filter and the full range of Larox products are fully supported by the Larox Service group, the most comprehensive and experienced network in the industry, covering the world with operations in over 40 countries and providing reliable support throughout the entire lifecycle of the product..
Larox is committed to helping its clients meet the following goals
- Reduced lifetime production costs - especially energy based costs.
- Improved product quality, value and consistency.
- Improved safety, health and environmental performance.
- Improved yield and productivity.
