Medical Education Partnership (MEP Ltd)

A highly successful conference, Multidisciplinary Care in Parkinson's Disease and Parkinsonism from Science to Practice, was held on Tuesday 11th of July, 2006, at the Royal College of Physicians, London.

Organised annually by MEP Ltd on behalf of the British Geriatrics Society (BGS) Parkinson's Disease Special Interest Group, this year's ground breaking meeting, the 11th in the series, turned the spotlight on the rarer parkinsonian syndromes, such as multiple system atrophy and progressive supranuclear palsy. The varied programme explored many aspects of these challenging neurological conditions, including:

  • Clinical pointers for accurate diagnosis
  • Genetic and pathological findings
  • Cognitive and neuropsychiatric aspects
  • The burden of autonomic dysfunction in MSA
  • Speech, swallowing and breathing difficulties in MSA and PSP
  • Specialist equipment and technology
  • Parkinson Disease ConferenceGetting the care right
  • Support for patients and families available from voluntary organisations.

Delegates were greatly encouraged by news of several important research developments in MSA, PSP and similar conditions in the past few years, with more studies in progress.
