Link Lockers Cleans Up - Hands Down

Link Lockers

Everyone involved in health and hygiene sensitive activities can now benefit from the latest development from Link Lockers. The company is announcing a major product innovation which is seeing its range of steel lockers made available with anti-microbial 'BioCote' protection which will reduce significantly the risk of cross-contamination in the workplace.

By providing a simple yet highly effective means of reducing potential health risk, the move is set to be of particular importance in areas where high contact frequency coincides with a focus on hygienic operation. The company points to changing facilities in the health or hospital environment as a prime examples where BioCote should be utilised.

Applied during the standard painting process as part of the coating formulation, BioCote is non-leaching and offers excellent anti-microbial properties. Because it is based on the use of silver - acknowledged as a very effective antimicrobial agent - it represents an important complement to correct cleaning practices. Active for the life of the product, its value will be recognised throughout the health service, particularly by infection control nurses, ward sisters and all personnel with a responsibility for health and hygiene procedures.

“Because BioCote interrupts and destroys the ability of cells to function by inhibiting reproduction of bacteria and fungi, it does not behave in the same way as antibiotics and therefore there is no evidence of bacteria developing resistance to the coating,” comments Link Lockers’ Managing Director, Stephen Woodhouse. “Also, the anti-microbial performance does not deteriorate over time. It has been thoroughly tested in the UK by its manufacturers and developers and results show it to be highly effective against a wide range of bacteria and fungi as well as being of low toxicity against non-target organisms.”

This latter point is demonstrated by specific analysis over a period of 18 hours which highlighted a remarkable 99.9% reduction in listeria monocytogenes and a 99.8% reduction in staphylococcus aureus (MRSA strain). A similar assessment with Escherichia coli 0157 also resulted in a 99.6% reduction and 99.3% with salmonella enteritidis.

BioCote protection is available in a choice of standard colours across Link Lockers' full range of steel lockers including the metric and standard imperial units, as well as cupboards and garment issue units. The latter is particularly important in the health sector as this is arguably where cross-contamination risks can be at their highest.

“We are delighted to be working in conjunction with BioCote,” concludes Stephen Woodhouse. “The company is committed to offering the benefits of BioCote to only one manufacturer in each sector and obviously we are pleased that Link Lockers is able to bring these to all our customers. We have noted a wider increase in the use of lockers in many market sectors as part of a drive towards greater security and improvements to personnel facilities. We believe that in specific areas such as the health sector, this latest innovation is an important and tangible contribution to the management of hygiene risks in critical areas.”
