Human Genetic Support Services: DNA Extraction and EBV Transformation

European Collection of Cell Cultures

ECACC has provided blood processing, EBV transformation and cell banking and genomic DNA preparation services to genetic research for many years and is committed to improving the services we offer so as to more fully meet the needs of our customers.

This programme of continuous improvement now enables us to offer our customers two new services:

DNA Extraction from Whole Blood

As a direct result of investment in state-of-the-art automated DNA extraction and liquid handling technology we are now able to offer a service extracting DNA directly from whole blood.

EBV Transformation from Whole Blood

Following an extensive development project, we are pleased to offer our customers a service for the cryopreservation and subsequent EBV transformation, if required, of whole blood. Although transformation from separated lymphocytes remains the gold standard method and should be the first choice of researchers requiring cell lines, cryopreservation of aliquots of whole blood for possible future EBV transformation from a selected sub-population is a viable alternative you may wish to consider.

If you are contemplating using lymphoblastoid cell lines for expression studies, we refer you to the following paper published recently in Nature Genetics. The cell lines used in this study were generated and grown here at ECACC
