HemoCue introduces point-of-care testing (POCT) devices with advanced Data Management capabilities.
HemoCue 201 DM systems combine lab-quality test results with customizable operation and standardized connectivity.
HemoCue 201 DM systems bring modern Data Management capabilities to the HemoCue product line. Available for both glucose and hemoglobin testing, they offer healthcare providers faster data availability, better quality control, increased regulatory compliance and improved administration. The systems will initially be released in the Nordic countries and Germany in early 2004, and HemoCue anticipates being able to distribute on a worldwide basis by the end of the year.

Advanced Settings Options
HemoCue 201 DM systems allow health care providers to ensure the authorized and appropriate use of HemoCue analyzers. By means of a wide range of settings and definable options, the systems can be made to prompt the operator for identification, lot numbers, quality control and other required information during analysis.
This data is then transmitted to clinical information systems, which leads to improved staff and patient management and to more effective billing. Anders Williamsson, Managing Director of HemoCue, notes that, "Not only do these new features clarify and automate routines, they actually help to improve the quality of care."
CIC-Compatible Connectivity
When a HemoCue 201 DM analyzer is placed in its docking station, the test results and other data are automatically transferred to a network PC. This saves time and labor costs, and also eliminates the risk of transcription error. Information is sent according to the Connectivity Industry Consortium (CIC) protocol, POCT1-A, a connectivity standard that allows different POCT devices to share a common interface. "Use of the POCT1-A standard reduces the cost of implementing and maintaining POCT," says Anders Williamson. "HemoCue recognizes the value in this, which is why our 201 DM systems are among the first to comply."
HemoCue Method
HemoCue 201 DM systems use the same testing methodology as other HemoCue glucose and hemoglobin devices. Utilizing a special analyzer and proprietary microcuvettes containing dried reagents, the methods have proven accurate and precise in numerous clinical evaluations involving various laboratory methods.
HemoCue AB develops, produces and markets medical diagnostic products for point-of-care testing. The company's annual sales exceed EUR 50 million and its products are distributed in more than 100 countries worldwide.
The fundamental concept behind HemoCue products is the ability to perform common blood and urine tests at the point of care without sacrificing the accuracy and precision offered by a central clinical lab.
HemoCue is owned by EQT. EQT is a leading private equity group in Northern Europe.
