PGM is spearheading the development of the new LSC facility which provides pharmaceutical customers with a fast and economic solution for urgent, unpredictable, or sporadic packaging requirements.
The new LSC facility enables pharmaceutical customers to continue to produce bulk volumes of standard, generic and primary packs. The packs can then be fully customised in-house or by packaging providers such as Brecon, using digitally printed clear label technology, which enables the late addition of customer specific language, booklets and leaflets. The system also enables the packs to carry sequential numbers as well as 2D datamatrix codes for traceability throughout the supply chain.
The new LSC service uses proven print and late stage application technology from Colchester based Pago Ltd, which will also be supplying Brecon with the LSC consumables. Brecon will be installing the LSC equipment in its new £multi-million production facility in Hay-on-Wye which is scheduled for completion in autumn 2005.
PGM’s Managing Director Geoff Giles believes the new LSC pack designs can be a key element in a coherent packaging portfolio strategy. He said, “When the new LSC packs are aligned alongside their higher volume counterparts, businesses can achieve more flexibility to supply the optimum pack to suit local market requirements. This will help the supply chain to respond to sporadic demand and will assist small markets to maintain a broad product portfolio not possible with a normal production strategy”.
Mike Cooper, Managing Director of Pago Ltd said, “We are delighted to be working alongside PGM and Brecon in this niche market development. Our LSC technology provides an exciting opportunity to offer customers an effective solution for low volume market specific packs, allowing the highly efficient production of packs compliant with local regulatory requirements.”
John Bath, CEO of Brecon, said “The flexibility provided by the new LSC facility offers considerable potential for our global customers for clinical trial products, new product launches and also maintaining the product life cycle as patent expiry approaches. This is an exciting new addition to our portfolio of packaging services.”
