Improved Dissolution Testing Services

RSSL pharmaceutical laboratories have gained new dissolution testing equipment for enhanced efficiency and speed. The new dissolution baths enable automatic sampling of test materials at pre-set intervals. Samples can be extracted without researchers being present, affording RSSL improved increased flexibility in task scheduling.

Dissolution testing is an essential process in drug discovery and QC applications. In drug development, dissolution testing allows users to estimate drug release profiles seen inside the body. In quality control operations, dissolution testing allows researchers to estimate the consistency of dosage forms from one batch to another, offering rapid conclusions to avoid delays in bringing the product to market.

RSSL's senior scientist, Nicola Banks, advised: "Before moving over to the automated system it will be necessary to show equivalence with manual methods, and we have the method transfer/development expertise to do this. The auto-samplers are expensive pieces of equipment, but we should be able to generate results in shorter timescales and more cost effectively, especially for extended release products. We are confident the investment will benefit many of our customers."
